How to download betting apps on iPhone and Android

Getting a betting app on your phone takes about two minutes. Years ago Android users had to download apps from the bookmaker’s website. Now every major UK bookmaker is in both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Here is how to do it safely.

On iPhone (App Store)

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Search for the bookmaker by name, for example “Paddy Power”.
  3. Check the developer name matches the real bookmaker before you tap Get.
  4. Tap Get and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your password.
  5. Open the app and log in, or tap Join to create an account.

Real-money betting apps are rated 18+ on the App Store, and Apple only allows licensed operators.

On Android (Google Play)

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for the bookmaker by name.
  3. Check the developer is the real bookmaker, then tap Install.
  4. Open the app and log in or register.

Google Play allows real-money betting apps in the UK only from licensed operators. They must be rated Adults Only and are free to download.

Stay safe when downloading

  • Only download from the official app stores or the bookmaker’s own website.
  • Never install a betting app from a link in a text message, social media post or unknown site.
  • Make sure the bookmaker is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. Its licence number is usually in the footer of its website.
  • Keep the app updated. Updates often include security fixes.

After you install

When you open an account you will be asked for your name, address and date of birth, and the bookmaker must verify these before you can bet. You will also be prompted to set a deposit limit before your first deposit. It is worth doing properly: pick an amount you would be comfortable losing over a week or month.

Turn on Face ID or fingerprint login if offered, and switch off notifications you don’t want. Promotional pop-ups can be turned off in the app’s settings.

App or mobile site?

If you would rather not install anything, every bookmaker’s mobile website does the same job in your phone’s browser. The app is usually faster and easier to log in to, but neither is wrong. See our betting app reviews to choose one.

18+ only. Betting should be fun, not a way to make money. Set a deposit limit, never chase losses, and if it stops being fun, get free, confidential support from BeGambleAware or the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.
