Star Sports App Review: Features, Offer and How to Download
Star Sports is an independent British bookmaker founded and owned by Ben Keith, best known for its on-course pitches at meetings such as Cheltenham, Epsom, Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood. Its online and app betting is run by Star Racing Limited, which has held a UK Gambling Commission remote betting licence (account 9177) since 2010. Here’s what the Star Sports app offers, what we could and couldn’t check, and how to download it.

Pros and cons
What I like
- A long-established independent bookmaker with real racing pedigree, including on-course pitches at the big festivals
- Bet Boosts, Daily Specials and Weekend Enhanced Boosts, according to the app listings
- You can speak to a trader by phone as well as bet in the app
- Live streaming, according to Star Sports’ own app page
- Casino, live casino and virtual racing in the same app
What could be better
- Low store ratings: 3.1 on the App Store (32 ratings) and 3.0 on Google Play (40+ reviews)
- A much smaller app than the big names – 10K+ Google Play downloads
- The welcome offer needs a £40 first bet – more than many rivals ask
- Few official help pages, so check cash out, Bet Builder and payment details in the app
- One App Store reviewer says bigger bets often need trader approval
Using the app
The Star Sports app covers pre-match and in-play betting on football, horse racing, golf and US sports, plus virtual racing and football, slots, casino and live casino. The App Store listing puts the big racing festivals – Cheltenham, the Grand National and Royal Ascot – alongside Premier League and Champions League football.
On prices, Star Sports’ app listings advertise Bet Boosts, Daily Specials and Weekend Enhanced Boosts. Comparison sites also mention Star Boosts on racing and a football bet builder, but we couldn’t find either on an official Star Sports page, so check the Promotions and football sections in the app.
Cash out isn’t mentioned in the store listings, but app reviewers do talk about using it – one Google Play reviewer said it isn’t offered on high-odds bets. Check which bets show a cash out button, and read our cash out guide if you’re new to it.
The app holds 3.1 on the UK App Store from 32 ratings and 3.0 on Google Play from just over 40 reviews, so a handful of users can move the score a lot. Positive reviews praise the speed and quick withdrawals; negative ones mention bets being referred to a trader, restricted accounts and casino complaints. Something most apps don’t offer: Star Sports says you can speak to a trader by phone.
New customers can bet £40 and get £20 in free bets. Your first bet needs to be a £40+ single at evens (2.0) or bigger, and the £20 comes as 2 × £10 free bets to use at 4/1 (5.0) or bigger. Void and cashed-out bets don’t count. Our guide to how sign-up offers work explains the usual catches, and our offers page lists the deals we’ve checked.
Live streaming
Star Sports’ own app download page says you can enjoy its live streaming in the app, but it doesn’t say which sports are covered or whether you need a funded account or a bet. Comparison sites say UK and Irish racing with a small qualifying bet – we couldn’t confirm that, so look for the streaming icon and check the terms in the app.
Deposits and withdrawals
Star Sports doesn’t publish a payments page we could read. Its website shows a Yaspa (pay by bank) logo, and the app listings only say there’s a range of payment methods. Comparison sites mention debit cards and bank transfer with a £10 minimum, but check the cashier in the app for current methods, minimums and withdrawal times. There’s more in our deposits and withdrawals guide.

Star Sports vs William Hill
| Star Sports | William Hill | |
|---|---|---|
| App Store rating | 3.1 (32) | 4.7 (200K) |
| Google Play rating | 3.0 (40+) | 4.3 (32.8K) |
| Welcome offer | Bet £40, get £20 in free bets (2 × £10) | Deposit £10+, bet £10 at evens or bigger, get 4 × £10 Bet Builder free bets (code FB40) |
| Cash out | Mentioned by users – check in app | Full cash out (William Hill says partial isn’t available yet on its new app) |
| Bet builder | Check in app | Bet Builder Hub |
| Odds boosts | Bet Boosts, Daily Specials, Weekend Enhanced Boosts | Acca Boost |
| Live streaming | Yes – sports and conditions: check in app | WHTV – positive balance or a bet in the last 24 hours; racing needs a £1+ bet |
| Minimum deposit | Check in app | £5 |
William Hill has a far bigger app following (4.7 from around 200,000 App Store ratings), an official FB40 welcome offer and clearly published streaming rules. Star Sports is a smaller, racing-led independent – worth a look if you like boosted prices and the option of phoning a trader, but William Hill is the easier pick on app polish and published terms.
My verdict
Star Sports is a proper racing bookmaker – a familiar name on the rails at Cheltenham and Royal Ascot – and its app gives you racing, football, boosts and the option of a phone trader. But its store ratings are low and come from a small number of users, and little is published officially about cash out, streaming and payments. I’d treat it as a second account for racing prices and specials rather than your main betting app, and check the terms in the app before you deposit.
